So George W. Bush, Lady Gaga and Madonna walk into a bar…. Is this the latest joke circulating on Facebook?  No.  It’s probably a night at The 15^th Annual Sunburst Convention of Celebrity Impersonators and Look A Likes.  This annual convention is taking place again here in Orlando.  It is being held on property at The Florida Hotel and Conference Center.

The public is invited to attend the two showcases on September 1 and 2, 2017 where they will see over 45 professional celebrity impersonators perform and appear on stage each day.  Each day’s showcase will feature different “stars”.

The convention is held each year as a way for professional celebrity impersonators and talent agents from across the country to meet face to face and get together on bookings and appearances.  These professional entertainers are booked at corporate events, fairs, festivals, casinos, cruise ships and night clubs across the US, making it a multi-million (if not billion) dollar industry.  This year, the public is invited to attend the showcases .

Greg M and Jackie Thompson are producers of the convention, having started it back in 2004. “During the day it’s business, and at night it’s party time.” says Greg M Thompson.  The convention has been featured on CNN, The Rachael Ray Show, FUSE TV, The Tonight Show, The Daily Buzz and many more television shows.  It was the featured subject of “Just About Famous”, a documentary  that is currently running on NETFLIX.

NEW KICKOFF PARTY VENUE!

OUR KICKOFF PARTY will take place at POINTE ORLANDO, specifically at LAFAYETTES Food, Music and Spirits. (You'll LOVE their showroom) We will have our RED CARPET WALK, where we introduce ALL of our attendees (who are in costume). We'll be doing a show on their stage (open to the public) from 7-11pm. We'll also have our photo op set up. Plus, we'll have food and drink specials for our attendees. The night includes FREE admission to BB Kings (next door). THE IMPROV is at the same complex along with MAIN EVENT ENTERTAINMENT, Blue Martini, THE PUB, and so much more. Enjoy one of Orlando's Best Entertainment, Dining and Shopping Complexes.

Sunburst's Birthday Party! Number 15!

Hi Folks,

Jackie and I were discussing what we would like to do for our 15th Year of Sunburst!  We came up with a great idea!

We are having a BIRTHDAY PARTY! It will be complete with a magician, face painters, balloon animals, dancing, games, contests, clown(s), cake and ice cream....it's going to be a blast.

It's like a kid's party....but with adults!  Imagine the fun!

It's included in the registration fee, but it's only open to those who register!

It will be on the FRIDAY NIGHT of the convention.  Last year, we had a "free night" but everyone came to the Hospitality Suite anyway....so this year, we'll go back to having a party!

2015/ Look A Like Boot Camp

Uuuugggh!  I'm having some personal concerns about SUNBURST.  One on hand, I want attendees of The Sunburst Convention to come, have fun, get bookings and like me.  But it's frustrating year after year to see people attend the convention and not work it like they should.  And then wonder why they don't get bookings while others get more than enough bookings to pay for their attendance many times over.

I am sooooo wanting to do a seminar on "Get off your ass and make it happen!".  Get real.... It's called show BUSINESS!!!!  And in business, you have to market, promote and do things to get attention.  Outta sight, outta mind.  Every year, I give out a list of the Agents who attend.  And every year, I have agents tell me that only a very few follow up with them after the convention..... and guess who gets the work?  Those who follow up!!!   So, I am gonna do it this year!  Looks like Celebrity Impersonator boot camp from now on!  I provide the atmosphere, the networking, the seminars, the contacts.... Now Use Them to show the folks who you are and what you do!!!  No one is handing anything to you!  It's here for the taking.... Take it! Work it! Get bookings!

Yes, I've been watching Restaurant Impossible again.... Inspirational!

We work extremely hard to make sure attendees get their moneys worth.  We would love it if everyone said that they got tons of bookings from Sunburst, ....but we can't guarantee bookings.  After all, if you are not REALLY good at your impersonation, bookings are not going to happen.  Period.  And if you are really good, you need to be professional as well.  You can be really good, but if you are a jerk... Your time is limited.       Last year, a friend told me there are two kinds of entertainers... Those who want to be seen... And those who want to get the job done.  The second kind is the best. They want to get paid and they want to do a great job.  They want the client to be happy and call them back and pay them well.  The first wants to be seen, get treated like a superstar and will generally do it for peanuts.  I'm a professional. I'm going to charge a decent rate because I'm worth it.  I'm going to do what I promised and make the client happy.  But I'm not going to do a job for $100, perform all night and bask in the glory of praise from the audience.  I'm not!  If you come to Sunburst this year....expect to be inspired.....expect to get more bookings....expect to get a kick in the rear to increase your income from bookings.....and remember..... there is ALWAYS room for improvement.  I'm done....for now.
